Printmaking For A Day

I spent the whole day Saturday printing a couple of collagraph plates. The one pictured above is titled "The Three Deites". Last year I had a hard time getting a decent print from this plate, and so I think this one came out pretty good! I need to start creating more plates.

A collagraph print is created by adhering objects to a surface such as yarn, cardboard, sand, glue, etc.......

Once the objects are adhered, you then ink up the plate and print your image.

Feedback Please!

This is Lucy and she is the sister to Claire who was posted yesterday on the blog. I wasn't sure how I felt about Lucy having hair, so I posted her with and without hair. Would love to have some feedback from you on whether the hair works or not?! The hair is black horse hair that is wrapped with a wire coil.

I need to trim the hair on left side of her head to match the right.

Finished this piece a couple of weeks ago. He's been hanging around the studio so that I can study him and mentally critic him before I put out there for others to see.

Spare Parts

Had a few spare parts around the studio and decided to pair them up for the day and see how everyone got along. I just love my eye ball! Have a bag full of them and haven't been able to use them in anything yet. I have tried , but nothing comes together for me.

Assemblage - Venerable

Finished this piece up a few days ago and I had a hard time figuring out how to put her together and so she sat for a while. Her brass breast plate of vines and grapes came from a junk sale at my kids school last year. The dark tin that encompasses the main trunk of her body is a section of an eye glass case that has been darkened by placing it in a fire for several minutes. The heat from the fire changes the color of the metal.
My favorite part is the black hinge at the top, which is used to help support the piece. The door hinge is from the kids school. They did a major renovation last year and we helped to tear down the old cabinets and salvaged these old hinges, which I now use in my assemblage work.

Snow Day Art

Today is a snow day for the kids, so to combat the bordom we decided to make some of these fun toilet roll paper dolls. There is a free tutorial on Alisa Burkes blog that shows you how to make these little dolls. Alisa has tons of free tutorials and they all are very crafty and fun, so stop in a take a peak. Looking at the pic, we forgot to put angels wings on these girls.

Mighty Red Block Head

I've been jumped started with inspiration by Linda and Opie O'Brien 's book "Who's Your Dada". My sister sent me the book as a birthday gift and it is full of wonderful pics in the gallery section as well as step by step projects to create. I love and truely appreciate artist who are not affraid to share their knowledge and techniques with the rest of us. I'm not able to attend art retreats and books like this allow us a small peak into what I would imagine is covered in their classes. So thank you!

Wouldn't it be awesome to take an assemblage class on-line! Some of the well known mixed media artist are starting to offer some classes on-line, which is great! I hope the well known assemblage artists offer something on-line too!!
