Lydia

"Lydia"

Lydia is a type of textile art piece. Her dress is muslin fabric that has been painted and attached to hand woven wire. The textured white background, cursive paper and ledger paper are not part of the art piece, even though it appears to be.
I really like the skirt and would like to create a 3-D doll.

Block Art Dolls

Block Art Dolls

These little ladies made an appearance at the Baker Hunt Holiday Art Show/Sale this past Sunday.
The show was small in size, but big on attendance! Other fellow artists there had really wonderful work! Besides the bad weather, it was a fairly successful show!

Art Doll Minuet

The silk sari fibers used is called the Love Letters Skein because the color resembles that of old vintage letters. I fell in love with the color. She measures about 18" tall.

Game Boy II

"Game Boy II"

This doll didn't come out quite like I was aiming for. I had an inspiration picture of an old doll that a friend gave to me yrs. ago called the Carnival doll with the wetting mechanism.  I left the wooden box sitting around until I couldn't stand looking at it any more, so I pushed myself to do something with it. I'll have to make a few more boxes to try it again. If at first you don't succeed, try again!

Game pieces: bingo #'s, dice and a jack.

Coco

"Coco"

Let me tell you! That skirt she is sporting had been around the studio for about a year and half. I had totally different plans for it, but it just didn't seem to pan out, so it sat and sat. Well, I finished her a few months back and she has now been hanging in the studio complete and ready for a photo shoot.
I really have to be in the mood to photograph and that happens not very often.

Pipp

"Pipp"

Pipp is a new style of art doll I had been working on and he accompanied me to the Loveland Art Show last weekend. A sweet woman named Marilynn came around to my booth and fell in love with him, so now Pipp has a new home.

Dena & Simon

"Dena"

"Simon"

Had the urge to create some art dolls made form scrap metals. I usually like to use materials that have their own original colors, because I'm not big on adding color. Maybe if I were a painter, but I currently have no desire to add paint.
Simon's arms are created from wire as well as the designs on the midsection.

St Therese

St Therese

I forgot to announce on my blog that I had an art show this past weekend and it went well. I placed first in sculpture category, so that was nice.
St Therese, is a piece that took me a while to figure out how it was going to be connected structurally.
So I put off adhering her together while in my mind I was evaluating the situation. I really love the way she came out and the colors and composition work well together.

Assemblage Mixed Media Art Doll Lucy

"Lucy"

It's been a little while since my last post, but I have been busy in the studio. Lucy came together this past weekend. I hand wove the base a few yrs. back and the torso/head were nesting on top of another body for a while. Well, they collided last weekend and became Lucy. Most things that are not permanently attached sitting around in my studio are fair game for other uses.

Her head is a decorative knob used for a drawer.

Child Within

Child Within

Well I finished my class with Michael Demeng and it was fun. I became entranced with his use of the eyes in his work and thought I would give it a try. I used 2-D eyes instead of paper images.  It gives the piece a more dramatic look.

New works

"Rie"

These are a couple of pieces I've been working on. Art doll Rie is made with layered heavy watercolor paper, metal, doll legs that are not stuffed and a wooden spoon that supports the face.

"Mika"
I was trying to revisit some of my older pieces and create something similar with a new twist.  I can never duplicate anything successfully, so technically it's all new.

Pez Creation Update

My creation is almost complete, but I wanted to give you a look at what I came up with. I tried a few ways to keep him lower the ground, but I didn't like it.

So, I came across a few wire woven stands that I created several yrs back and were sitting up on the shelf. It was a perfect match. By the looks of him, you would think he was top heavy, but he's not.

I will have to admit the backside of his head has clay to cover up the opening and so his head will not slide backward to push a piece of candy out. The center part of the body still pulls all the way up. I struggled with leaving the opening so the head could work, but it just kept bugging me and so I felt compelled to cover it up.

Homestead Angel

I took an on-line plaster class with Stephanie Lee last year and this is one of my creations from the techniques learned. I even added encaustic wax to the piece. The center is a piece from one of my intaglio prints.  She measures about 14" in height.
It was a very informative class and she is a really great instructor. Very generous.

Pez Demolition and Reconstruction

I was without Pez, so I ran out to a couple of stores and scored me three of them.

The first victim is the mouse. I really tried to leave the ears on, but they just bothered me toooo much, so they had to go. One of the goals with the piece is make sure the pez dispenser functions upon completion, and so far mine still works.

I had  a partial outfit for this guy, but since painting his face it just doesn't go very well.

Now for the rest of him! Hopeful to have something to share with you again soon!

Pez Dispensing Totem Online Assemblage Class

To start the New Year out with a bang, I have registered for an online assemblage class with M. Demeng and it starts tomorrow. I will be posting WIP as this class evolves. All I need to do is find me a Pez!
