Emerging Young Artist

My daughter had her very first art show a couple of weeks ago and it was really great! There were schools from the tri-state area that took part. Ten students from her school were selected and she was one of them. I am so proud of her!! I think it was more of big deal for me than it was for her. I had my first show as an adult and here she is barely in Kinder and she has her first show. Opening night was packed.
She is very talented and she surprises me with her artistic imagination.

Assemblage - The Patron

This is a mixed media assemblage made from wood, hardware, metal, clay, and tin. The most interesting part of this doll are the arms. Inspiration from a book by
Jane Wynn had me on a scavenger hunt to our local indoor shooting range to collect empty bullet casings. I wasn't sure what I was going to find, but it was well worth the trip. I used the casings on the upper part of the arms. Her arms are also moveable. I enjoy the challenge of creating something that has moving parts.
Patina was used throughout the doll.

Dark Angel - Doll Assemblage

I learned alot about making solid connections when I was assembling this doll. It is somewhat heavy due to the old rusted hardware I used. The one thing that I wasn't expecting was the change in color of the rusted hardware pieces. The medium I sprayed over the doll changed from a beautiful natural rust to a very dark rust.
I can still live with the results!

I love the idea of the arms not being attached to the body and so I left them moveable, however, they cannot be removed from the piece.

Fired Tin Work

We had a small bomb fire last night and realized it was the perfect time to pull out a few of the tins I've been collecting throughout 2007. I just love the different colors the tin changes when heated. So, this is the first step in the assemblage process. Just love the black and the smell of campfire smoke. If any of you have done pit firing with clay pots, it's similar but much faster. Pit fire has to be tended to all night long. It's an awesome thing to experience.

Challenge #12 - Woman - Man - WoMan?

This my something created for Challenge #12 hosted by Jen Worden. We were to pick out three words and then create a piece of art work based on those words. I selected "Woman , Man, & WoMan" due to the hype going on in the media about a woman wanting to be man wanting to be women?
This assemblage is done with old, weathered fencing wood, rusted hardware and wire, polymer clay and horsehair. Love the theme of the challenge!! Thanks Again Jen!
